When is the best time to send SMS Marketing Campaigns?
At Text2VIP we’re often asked; When is the best time to send SMS marketing campaigns?
So we’ve put together a breakdown of suggestions that have shown to be very successful for many Text2VIP clients over the past 10+ years….
Between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. on weekdays. People will often check their notifications and read messages during this time (before the workday begins).
Between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. on weekdays. By this time, customers have likely ended their workday and will be on their phones.
Between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. This is a great time to send SMS text blasts, as your audience will not be busy with weekend plans yet and you are less likely to interrupt their day.
Between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sundays. This is an easy time to catch your customer’s attention, as they will likely be winding down and readying themselves for the week.
Restaurants or any business wishing to send something that will be activated in the a.m.
Examples:
“Free coffee when you show this text and purchase a breakfast sandwich”
Or
“Secret sale for text club members we are opening an hour early tomorrow just for you at 8am”
These types of a.m. targeted messages should always be sent the evening before. It is unprofessional and in some instances illegal, to send marketing messages too early in the a.m. Additionally, many consumers have a busy morning routine or schedule. It is most suitable for them to be made aware of upcoming events in the a.m….the day before to allow them to adjust their schedule accordingly.
Effective SMS Marketing Tips
At Text2VIP when we analyze the redemption and click-thru rate data across a broad number of metrics, a few themes tend to stand out including;
The most common time to send a text message campaign is 12:00 pm, and the least popular day to send a text campaign is on Sunday. No matter the day of the week, noon remains the most popular time to send a text campaign.
When Text2VIP clients send the text message blasts with links, most clicks also occurred at 12pm-1pm. This revealed that near-immediate action was taken by consumers once they received a message which contained a clickable link. (Which is trackable on the Text2VIP platform)
Regardless of the day of the week, you want to avoid scheduling your text marketing messages too early in the morning or too late at night.
Remember, you are communicating quickly and directly with consumers and you want to respect their personal time. You don’t want to wake your customers who forgot to turn on “Do Not Disturb.” (As a reminder, be wary of time zones when sending SMS messages nationally.)
It also makes sense to avoid sending text messages during rush hour and the times your customers are commuting to work. There is ample time to capture your consumer’s attention given that on average, they check their mobile phone messages up to 150 times a day on average.
Well-timed SMS campaigns can have a huge impact on driving traffic and sales at your establishment. It is not uncommon for Text2VIP clients to see 18-35% redemption rates just we’ve seen in the case of Moe’s Southwest Grill.
While we’ve outlined some of the best messaging service strategies for when to send an SMS marketing campaign, the client success team at Text2VIP always suggests that clients also mix up their cadence. Sending your creative SMS marketing campaigns at the same time or same day ritualistically can lead to staleness and predictability. So bearing this in mind, be sure to sprinkle in some unexpected (yet respectfully timed) SMS marketing to help bring your brand front-of-mind for consumers.
As always, feel free to reach out to our team if you find yourself in need of inspiration, fresh ideas, or would like to tap our knowledge base on what has shown to be effective for Text2VIP clients in your vertical over the past 10 years.
